Mobile broadband using 3G networks is taking off in Brazil, contributing to mobile data revenue more than tripling to $12.7 billion in 2014 while bundling strategies hold significant promise as the country's broadband sector continues to expand, according to this new report.

Brazil: 3G and Service Bundling Will Drive Network Operator Revenue Growth offers a precise profile of the country’s telecommunications, media, and technology sectors, based on proprietary data from our research in the market. It provides detailed competitive analysis of both the fixed and mobile sectors, tracks the market shares of technologies and services, and monitors the introduction and spread of new technologies.

Pyramid Research estimates that Brazil's total telecom revenue reached $49.5 billion in 2009 and will grow to $69.3 billion in 2014, fueled by expansion in mobile data services and broadband Internet access. The deployment of 3G and LTE technologies will reverse the relative proportions of fixed and mobile revenues, with mobile services representing most of the market by 2011, notes Vinicius Caetano, Senior Analyst at Pyramid Research and author of the report. 'Data and video, pushed by the deployment of newer technologies, such as 3G, LTE, and IPTV, will keep growing as a larger portion of the population gain access to these services,' he says.

'The mobile penetration rate in Brazil is still low compared with countries, such as Argentina, where it surpasses 130 percent; however, regulations making mobile operators deploy 3G service in the whole of Brazil over the next few years will significantly boost the number of mobile users,' explains Caetano. 'The mobile sector as a whole will continue growing thanks to an 11-point advance in mobile penetration of the population.'
Convergence strategies hold significant promise in Brazil as the country's broadband sector continues to expand. 'Brazil's operators are among Latin America's most advanced in terms of deployments of triple-play offerings,' Caetano says. 'The key players are Oi with its Conta Total bundles, and NET Serviços with its Combos. So far, competition has developed via bundles of voice, broadband, and television.'
