The International Tree – Based Carbon Emissions Trading Industry
DANA Limited, Oct 2008, Pages: 280
An authoritative review of the global carbon forestry business: covering politics, economics, markets, risks and opportunities.
As foresters, forestry consultants; and as timberland investors; the authors have for a decade closely observed developments related to the Kyoto Protocol, CDM and other compliance - based carbon trading protocols, regulatory protocols and more recently a flurry of new voluntary carbon trading protocols in various parts of the world; as well as the proliferation of tree- based carbon emissions trading. We have observed the strongly passionate arguments delivered by professional experts on either side. We have read hundreds of official documents, websites, news updates, blogs and press releases about the industry and CO2-e emissions trading, and especially tree- based carbon trading. But then: even after all of that, we realized we still did not really begin to understand this complex, mysterious and acronym - shrouded industry.
So, we decided to research the subject to the point where we could write a Review about it. And we have. This 280 page Review is not exactly 'carbon trading for dummies', but we have tried to peel away layers of 'official speak' and mystique from this emerging industry, and to suggest in what direction it might be headed.
The International Tree Based Carbon Emissions Trading Industry is the first edition of planned regular Reviews on this subject, as the world moves rapidly to either a consensus driven post- 2012 world of global climate change legislation? -- or to an increasingly divided world still arguing about who should move, when and by how much, while (maybe?) the water rises.
After all the publicity and hype over climate change since the Kyoto Conference in 1997; at the end of 2008, there is stillONLY ONE compliance- based, legislation- backed tree- based carbon emissions trading protocol in existence; and the details of that are still being discussed.
This Review is an essential information resource for investor groups, NGOs, carbon traders, carbon trading platforms, commercial and non commercial forest owners, advisors and consultants, researchers and politicians and government departments involved with general, and tree- based carbon emissions trading.
