Indonesia: Rising Competition to Spur Telecom Revenue Growth
Pyramid Research, Inc., April 2010, Pages: 27
Intense competition involving more than a half-dozen mobile operators in Indonesia will drive down service prices and significantly boost mobile penetration rates through 2014, making Indonesia one of the top telecom growth markets in the world behind India and China, according to this new report.
Indonesia: Rising Competition to Spur Telecom Revenue Growth offers a precise profile of the country's telecommunications, media, and technology sectors based on proprietary data from our research in the market. This 27-page report provides detailed competitive analysis of both the fixed and mobile sectors, tracks the market shares of technologies and services, and monitors the introduction and spread of new technologies.
Despite being only the seventh largest market in Asia/Pacific from a total service revenue perspective, Indonesia represents one of the most significant opportunities globally given the underpenetration of most telecom services, notes Tae-Hyung Kim, Analyst at Pyramid Research and co-author of this report. 'Pyramid Research expects the telecom market to grow at a CAGR of 12.4 percent over the next five years, to $16.2 billion in 2014,' Kim says. 'As the mobile penetration was below the global average at the end of 2009, with broadband yet to reach 1 percent of the population and the pay-TV penetration at 2 percent of households, Indonesia will be one of the fastest-growing telecom markets in Asia.'
The mobile sector will provide $5.2 billion of the $7.2 billion increase in Indonesia's telecom services market in the 2009-2014 period, making mobile services the main engine of growth, notes Kim. 'The bulk of this will be driven by subscription additions; in fact, Indonesia's 84 million net subscription additions over the next five years put it behind only India and China on the list of the world’s top growth markets,' he adds. Indonesia is one of the few markets around the world where we expect total fixed communications service revenue growth to exceed mobile service revenue growth over the next five years. 'Pyramid Research projects that total fixed service revenue in Indonesia will increase at a 13.6 percent CAGR between 2009 and 2014, versus 11.4 percent for the mobile market,' says Kim.
