Australia - Broadband - Home Area Networks
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., May 2011, Pages: 10
Home area networks refer to networks deployed in residential premises using wired or wireless technologies. Following global trends, devices in use in Australia are likely to become increasingly sophisticated in the next five years and competition and cooperation between network operators and consumer electronics manufacturers are likely to increase. As home networking in Australia matures from being PC- and media-centric using devices such as digital TVs, DVRs, digital media centres, set-top boxes and game consoles, the need for more connectivity will be required. We will need to incorporate a variety of consumer electronic devices that require connectivity to the smart homes of the future. The rollout of the National Broadband Network and the integration of smart grids will further drive this sector of the home area network market. In this report we provide an overview of the market in Australia for the various components of home networks, as well as an analysis of developments and selected statistical estimates. Some trends are included for a look at the global perspective of where home area networks are heading.
