This Frost & Sullivan research service titled APAC Land ISR- Radar Market Assessment provides a quantitative and qualitative overview of the radar systems spending in the APAC markets. The research service also identifies the key market drivers, restraints, industry challenges and opportunities and analyses their impact. It provides key findings, strategic insights and a set of actionable recommendations for companies planning to enter the regional land-based radar markets. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following markets: land-based air defence radar market and land-based missile defence radar market.

Market Overview

The APAC Land ISR Radar Market is Currently Experiencing Peak of its Spending Cycle

The Asia Pacific (APAC) region has witnessed substantial increase in defence expenditure since 2005 to match the region’s economic performance, thereby enabling it to spend on upgrading existing radar systems and purchasing new ones. This has also resulted in a new impetus towards acquiring more ground-based air defence systems as a part of the multi-layered AMD capability. There has also been increased drive towards integrating land-based radar systems with that of airborne and ship-borne systems for a unified AMD command. The threat scenario that the region’s most affluent countries experience has drove them to acquire such radars substantially, overlooking current economic crisis.

“Currently, the APAC land-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) radar market is at its peak spending cycle due to the simultaneous adoption of programmes by leading countries such as South Korea, Japan and Taiwan,” elaborates the analyst of this research. “All the leading countries in Asia Pacific are on the verge of transforming their air and missile defence (AMD) systems through integrating AMD radar and command and control networks by 2011, triggering a spending boost on radar systems.”

Frost & Sullivan’s research indicates that after 2011, new procurement of radar systems for AMD purpose envisaged to dwindle down until 2015, except for technology insertions and upgrades. “Active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar is capable of much faster scanning through steering the radar beam at nearly the speed of light, giving unmatched picture resolution,” says the analyst. “This is the radar of the future for all AMD systems and aircrafts in most APAC countries which are looking at upgrading their legacy systems.”
