SaaS (Software as a Service) is an on-demand application or software deployment model where user can license access of an applications as service. The software applications can be accessed from the Internet through standard web browser and be deployed as a hosted service. The software or application runs on the web servers of the service provider.

For example, SAP has acquired Frictionless Commerce, Clear Standards and SkyData Systems to offer their on-demand software services, while Salesforce.com, Citrix Online, etc are independent SaaS application providers.
