Web Application Firewall (WAF) protects the critical business applications working at layer seven of the open system interconnection (OSI) reference model. Some Web applications (like bank transactions, social networking services etc.) cannot be protected by the traditional firewalls (as it only protects the lower layers). This is where the WAF technology comes into play, as it is capable of safeguarding the integrity of Web applications.
