CAD Market in APAC 2009 2013

Infiniti Research Limited, April 2010, Pages: 23

Computer-aided Design (CAD) software uses computers and computing tools to design objects. Such software are used to design architectural, engineering, electronics, roadways etc. These designs may be two dimensional (2D) or three dimensional (3D), as per requirements. The software enables easy viewing of the designed object from different angles; and provides information on materials, tolerances, processes etc. Computer-aided Design software is used majorly for designing objects by manufacturing companies. The software is being used to form digital prototyping in contrast to physical prototyping, as the former saves time and resources. This software is also used to produce special effects through computer animation. Thus, its is being increasingly used by movie makers and advertising professionals.

The Asia Pacific region has lower manufacturing costs and favorable government policies, thus, prompting many global manufacturing units to be set up in the region. This trend has been followed by many global designing houses who have opened operations along with new low cost designing houses in the region. This helped maintain a sustained demand for CAD software in the region during the recent economic recession. Further, with economies improving and increasing buying power, an increased number of companies are set to invest in CAD solutions, which are likely to provide them sustainable business advantage and increased profitability.

Despite the recent economic downturn, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) manufacturing market has been growing steadily. Many global companies are investing in the region due to the advantages it offers and the growth potential it holds.

Further, CAD software prices in the Asia Pacific have decreased significantly in the recent times. Many low cost designing houses have come up in the region, increasing competition, and prompting global players to decrease their software price to sustain market share. Further, companies have even made free availability of 2D CAD software to capture market share and fight against growing piracy in the region. Additionally, , the computer hardware prices has dropped significantly in this region owing to growing number of hardware companies and low cost skilled labor in countries like China, Taiwan and India.
