The global financial crisis severely impacted its economy due to dependence on and geographic proximity to the U.S. economy. In addition, the limited competition in Mexico restricted the market dynamics.

- In 2009, IP VPN MPLS became the most important technology in the total market, outpacing Circuits and Private Lines, which had the prominent focus earlier.

- Operators in Latin America are investing in IP/MPLS and Metro Ethernet network deployments to improve the number and quality of services being offered, thereby driving demand.

- Verticals such as finances, oil, and government are typically involved in technology modernization to support efficiency, specialization, and business growth. They are leading the migration toward more robust platforms and new technologies.

- In addition, Dedicated IP is valuable in the penetration of the small and medium business (SMB) segment

- In terms of business segmentation, the total Latin American market is mainly concentrated on the Large Business segment (companies with more than xxx employees in Brazil and Mexico or more than xxx employees in other countries).

- Since the business segment in Latin America is in a xx% constituted of small and medium companies, there is an important potential market to be penetrated yet, and opportunities to generate business.

- Operators in countries such as Mexico and Brazil have taken some efforts to expand this segment, mostly through bundling strategies and customized attention, while in other countries such as Venezuela and Argentina, the SMB segment is unexplored.
