World Markets for Textile Machinery: Part 1—Yarn Manufacture, 2010 Edition
Textiles Intelligence, June 2010, Pages: 38
2009 was another poor year for the international textile yarn machinery market. Falls were recorded in deliveries of short staple spindles, long staple spindles, open-end rotors and single heater false-twist draw texturing machinery. Furthermore, all of the falls were at double digit rates, and in three cases deliveries fell at double digit rates for the second consecutive year.
In spinning, shipments of short staple spindles were down by 17% following a 33% decline in 2008, and deliveries of open-end rotors declined by 26% after plunging by 66% a year earlier. Meanwhile, shipments of long staple spindles plummeted by 78% following a modest 3.4% drop in 2008. In draw texturing, shipments of single heater false-twist spindles fell by 45%. This was the third consecutive double digit decline following drops of 20% in 2008 and 37% in 2007. As a result, shipments fell to their lowest level since records began in 1994. Deliveries of double heater false-twist spindles, on the other hand, increased by 52%, thereby reversing a 34% decline in the previous year.
A geographical breakdown shows that there were sharp falls in purchases by the industries in several individual countries in 2009. In India, for example, the industry reduced its acquisitions of short staple spindles by 46%, open-end rotors by 28% and double heater false-twist draw texturing spindles by 7.8%. At the same time the industry cut its acquisitions of long staple spindles entirely after being the third largest buyer in 2008. The industry in China, meanwhile, reduced its purchases of long staple spindles, open-end rotors and single heater false-twist spindles. Elsewhere, several industries stepped up their purchases in 2009. For example, the industries in Belarus and Iran increased their investments in short staple spindles, open-end rotors and double heater false-twist draw texturing spindles.
