Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to Capture the European Nuclear Power Market

Summary

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) is planning to capture the market potential of Europe in order to strengthen its nuclear power supply chain globally. The company already has a presence in the Japanese and the US nuclear power market. The company is a major player in the nuclear industry, with expertise in designing and manufacture of nuclear equipment and components, the installation of nuclear power plants and in providing maintenance and other after-sales services. In order to accomplish its aim, the company has recently signed agreements to form partnerships with the local industry players such as Iberdrola and Weir Group for the construction of potential nuclear power plants and to supply nuclear related equipment components in the European region. Through its partnership with Iberdrola, MHI is aiming to introduce and promote its EU-APWR (Advanced Pressurized Water Reactor) design (APWR designed for the European market) with necessary modifications in the design to meet the European regulations and market requirements. Partnership with Weir Group enables the company to supply pumps to the European market. The company has a strategic objective of increasing its supply chain and also aims to focus on the US nuclear market. In addition, the company has plans to double its nuclear sales. The growing energy needs would act as a catalyst for MHI to capture and cater for the global nuclear power arena.
