US sales of snow sport products—which include apparel, equipment and accessories—were up in value by 4% to US$2.9 bn during August 2009-March 2010.

La Sportiva and Samsung Cheil Industries have formed a partnership to design, develop and manufacture a new collection of technical outdoor apparel under the La Sportiva brand name. In another development, O’Neill and Active Brands have signed a licensing agreement relating to the manufacture and distribution of a new collection of O’Neill branded men’s and women’s swimwear and apparel. Uniteks, meanwhile, will distribute SmartSilver antimicrobial additives under an agreement with NanoHorizons.

In other news, Gulins Business Design has received an order for 25,000 sets of protective clothing for Norwegian marines, while Short Bark has received an order from the US Marine Corps for its flame resistant Inclement Weather Combat Shirt (IWCS). As part of the latter deal, Short Bark will make 180,000 shirts over an 18-month period.

AOM Holdings has acquired five swimwear brands from Quiksilver while Billabong International has entered into an agreement to buy Becker Surf and Sport, including its five retail stores and its online business. P2i, meanwhile, has secured funds worth £5.5 mn (US$8.3 mn) to support international growth of its liquid repellent technology.

Several companies have reported increases in their quarterly results, including Adidas (up by 4%), Columbia Sportswear (up by 10%), Perry Ellis International (up by 0.1%), Timberland (up by 7%), Under Armour (up by 15%), Unifi (up by 30%) and VF Corporation (up by 1%). Among those which recorded falls were Puma (down by 2%) and Quiksilver (down by 5%).

In other developments, Timberland has announced that it is on track to reach its target of a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the end of 2010.

Descente has announced plans to open its first store in Hong Kong in 2011 and up to two additional stores by the end of 2011, while Icebreaker has opened its first outlet store in North America.
