Learning in 3D: Adding a New Dimension to Enterprise Learning and Collaboration
John Wiley and Sons Ltd, Feb 2010, Pages: 416
The book is divided into three parts. The first part is a discussion of the rapid rate of change over the last 15 years in terms of the changes to the internet and consists of two chapters. The second part Learning to Change describes how learning needs to be adapted to 3D environments and what tools learning and development professionals are going to need to help advance 3D learning within their organizations. The third part of the book, Learning is Work describes how the merger of learning and work will shape future 3D environments. As 3D worlds allow workers to create and collaborate, soon those virtual creations can have serious impact on physical production of goods. And impact the delivery of certain services as well. The first chapter of the book introduces the concept of the rapidly emerging 3D internet also known as the immernet (immersive internet). The concepts include the rapid change of the Internet from its beginnings today, a discussion of why 3D environments are not as science fiction as many people seem to think they are and then a discussion of how learning professionals are going to be forced to develop strategies, tools and techniques for delivering learning events in 3D worlds. Each chapter in the book ends with a short section on Impact on Work and Schools which provides tangible and step-by-step actions that can be taken by employees within academic and corporate settings to enact the concepts discussed within each chapter. Complete TOC is available.
