The aim of the research is to describe the situation on the Russian market of wine and wine products, to present actual information about volume of production, export, import, consumption, and state of the market, and also about previous changes in 2009.
The wine production in Russia is mainly represented by the production of grapes wine (52%) fruit wine (4%), champagne and sparkling wine (25%), and wine products (19%).
In 2009 it produced 65.989 million decalitres of wine and wine products. At the same time this market was characterized by an upward trend since 2005 (except for the market of sparkling wines and champagnes). The main production facilities in Russia are concentrated in the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, Rostov region , Dagestan , Kabardino-Balkaria (-) and Chechnya .
In 2009, 56.5 million decalitres of were imported, amounting to643.4 million USD. Imports totaled 3.72 million decalitres of vermouth in the amount of 94.48 million USD.
Most of the wine exports to Russia are from Spain, Ukraine, Italy and France. Vermouth comes from Italy.
The main export of wine made in Turkmenistan. Russian vermouth goes to Latvia.
Per capita, wine consumption in Russia accounts for about 6 liters of wine per year and 1.7 liters of sparkling wine. According to experts, the consumption of wine in the future will increase.
