China's High Speed Rail Ambitions

China has embarked on the world’s most extensive construction of high-speed rail. The government plans to increase China’s high-speed network to 13,000 km by 2012 and to 16,000 km by 2020 – an effort that is expected to require investment of RMB 2 trillion.
