The US economy is improving, with the corporate sector taking the lead on the performance side. This is driving recovery in the financial markets, and consequently the banking sector is seeing many signs of improvement related to the trading environment.

The profitability for 2009 has improved significantly over 2008. However, it is still way below the 2007 level. The growth in earnings is driven mainly by noninterest income, although net interest income is improving as well.
