Tabor Research estimates that the Traditional HPC server market was approximately $7.83 billion in 2008, declining from $7.89 billion in 2007. The traditional HPC server market declined 0.8% year-over-year.
Key estimates from the study include:
- The Supercomputer segment represents a respectable 17.5% of the HPC market. Both Supercomputers and High-End HPC segments experienced growth while Mid-Range and Entry-Level HPC servers declined.
- IBM and HP led traditional HPC sales for the last three years, each capturing about a third of the market.
- In 2008, HPC sales in EMEA and Asia-Pacific showed positive growth while North America declined in growth. North America still represents over half of the market at 54%.
- The largest portion of sales in economic sectors went to Commerce/Industry with 45% of the market.
