China Synthetic Fiber and Its Sub-industry Statistics, 2009-2010

Synthetic fiber is a kind of linear organic macromolecular compound produced from addition polymerization or condensation polymerization with small molecular organic compounds as the raw materials. In terms of the main chain structure, synthetic fiber can generally fall into terylene, acrylic fiber, nylon, vinylon, spandex, polypropylene, etc.
With the regaining demand for textiles, the boom of China’s synthetic fiber industry is mounting up. The output of synthetic fiber in China reached 24.854 million tons in 2009, a YoY growth of 9.7%; and the output in the first half of 2010 hit 11.31 million tons, up 13.8% year-on-year. The gross margin of the industry turned out to be 6.3% in 2009, an increase of 0.6 percentage points from a year earlier; the number of loss-making enterprises registered 304, a decrease of 97 from a year earlier; and the total loss of the loss-making enterprises amounted to RMB2.52 billion, down RMB3.4 billion year-on-year. On the basis of the figure at the end of 2009, the profitability of China’s synthetic fiber industry slightly rose in the first half of 2010, of which, vinylon, spandex, and polypropylene enjoyed best profitability with the average gross margin approximating 11%; moreover, the gross margin of polyester industry that characterizes weak profitability also reached 6.1% or so.
This report presents the overall operation data of China synthetic fiber and its sub-industry like terylene , nylon, acrylic fiber, vinylon, spandex, polypropylene, etc. in 2009 and 2010, covering output, corporate quantity, total assets, industrial sales, main business revenue, cost expenses, total profit, gross margin, export delivery value, output value of new products, etc.
Terylene is the chemical fiber variety with the largest amount of processing in all textile fibers. In 2009, the output of terylene in China totaled 22.006 million tons, up 9.7% from a year earlier, and in the first half of 2010, the figure amounted to 11.50 million tons, a YoY rise of 13%.
