Environmental Toxicity of Nanoparticles

Future Medicine Ltd, August 2010, Pages: 60

This Special Focus Issue of the peer-reviewed journal Nanomedicine focuses on the environmental toxicity, also known as ecotoxicity, of nanoparticles and how this might be relevant to human health and medicine. As such, the issue is focused deliberately on engineered nanoparticles. The special issue’s main roles are to introduce the concept of nanoparticle ecotoxicity and to explore the main factors that have a role in this potential ecotoxicity. The state of the field is described and several key examples of the interaction of different nanoparticles, for example, metals, oxides, fullerenes and carbon nanotubes, with water and soil are given.
