China - Broadband Market - Overview, Statistics and Forecasts

Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd, August 2012, Pages: 27

In 2004 China passed Japan to become the world’s second biggest broadband market, and then passed the US in 2008 to become the largest broadband market in the world. Into 2012 China’s broadband subscriber population had passed the 150 million subscriber milestone. Despite this huge subscriber base, penetration remains comparatively low. China is the top DSL market on the globe and is making significant inroads with aggressive FttX deployments. This report looks at the nature of the market, the key players and broadband services, such as cable modem access, DSL, FttX and wireless access, accompanied by detailed statistics and analysis. Broadband forecasts to 2017 are also included as well as FttX forecasts to 2017.

Key developments:
Broadband household penetration reaches close to 40%; DSL subscribers near the 120 million mark; FttX shows substantial growth creating world’s largest subscriber base although short of government targets; average IPTV growth; acceleration of three-network integration trials.

Companies covered in this report include:
China Mobile; China Telecom; China Unicom.
