On May 25th, 2010 BMC introduced its Cloud Service Management initiative by highlighting its Cloud Lifecycle Management solution which became generally available on May 10th. BMC will continue to enhance its Cloud initiative with new products, partnerships and customers throughout the year. In this announcement, BMC stated its objectives to further its capabilities in supporting large enterprises and service providers across a wide range of disciplines including planning, lifecycle management, operations and optimization, and governance, as well as expanding its own BMC SaaS offerings. In its Cloud strategy, BMC stressed its commitment to supporting heterogeneous infrastructure environments including diverse virtualization software. BMC also targeted automation and provisioning, including full-stack layered provisioning across the server, network and application environment versus the more prevalent approach to managing virtualization in technology and brand silos. One of BMC’s distinctive targets is “Dynamic Network Containers” – or provisioning targeted “network zones” which are optimized to support Cloud in terms of security and performance – such as providing cohesive access control across firewalls and network ports.
