'India Defence' provides an overview that includes military expenditure, defence production, a defence report (2009-2010) and others. Despite the economic slowdown faced by most developed countries, global military expenditure shows few signs of contraction and in 2009, total spending for the world’s military spending surged nearly 6% to USD1.53tr. Among which, the U.S. accounted for more than half of the increase while the remaining growth was mostly contributed to by emerging economies like Russia, India and China.
This report also provides market trends and outlook. India was one of the top 10 military spenders in 2009, with its rank at 9th spot, it contributed to 2.4% to global military spending. In view of India’s defence production, it is anticipated that the country will spend INR223.94cr for the investment on modernisation of plant and machinery.
