The aim of the research is to describe the situation on the Russian cottage cheese and cheese market, to present actual information about volumes of production, export, import, consumption, and state of the market, and also previous changes in 2009.
Comparing the production of cottage cheese for the period of 2005-2009, we must note the significant increase in production from 233 tons to 351 tons, representing about 40%. The leader among the countries producing and supplying cheese in Russia, both in kind and in value terms, is Lithuania; large deliveries occur also in Finland and Germany.
In 2009, in the territory of Russia were imported about 226 thousand tons of cheese. Among the countries producing and supplying cheese in Russia, the greatest proportion of deliveries in kind and in value terms were Ukraine and Germany. In 2009, the largest supplier of cheese to Russia became the Finnish company “Valio” . Also significant proportion fell to manufacturing companies: 'Milkiland-Ukraine' (-), 'EtalonMolProdukt' and 'AgroProdEksport' .
Export volume of cottage cheese from Russia in 2009 amounted to 3,503 tons. During 2005-2009, the average retail price for fat cottage cheese has grown from 73 RUR to 138 RUR per kilogram.
