Norsk Hydro ASA (Hydro) is a global supplier of aluminium with activities throughout the value chain, from bauxite extraction to the production of rolled and extruded aluminium products and building systems. The company ranks second in electric power generation in Norway with 19 hydroelectric power plants. Its power plants are located at Telemark, Sogn and Roldal-Suldal, which are managed through a operation center at Rjukan in Telemark. Hydro is the world’s fifth largest producer of aluminum metal. It is also a leading global provider of a range of downstream aluminum products including extrusion products and rolled products for the transportation, building, packaging and lithographic markets. The company’s operations are spread across 40 countries in Europe, the US, Canada, other Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The company has primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Qatar. Hydro is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.
Recently, Hydro and Qatalum signed a cooperation agreement with the Qatar University and its Center for advanced materials. Qatalum is a 50-50 joint venture between Hydro and Qatar Petroleum, which is one of the largest aluminium plants in the world, with an annual production capacity of about 600,000 metric tons.
