Summary: |
Unlike the USA where the diabetes market has developed rapidly in recent years driven by new product introductions such as the insulin sensitizer metformin and a series of thiazolidines (glitazones), the European market has been relatively quiet.
While the US market size was estimated at $4.1 billion in 1999, that in Europe was valued at $1.9 billion.
Although the reasons for the difference in relative market size are several, a major contributory factor has been the lack of significant new product launches in Europe. |
