World Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor Markets
Frost & Sullivan, Aug 2010, Pages: 139
This research service provides an in-depth analysis of the World TVSS market from 2006 to 2016. The base year is 2009 and revenue forecasts have been provided by region, segments and subsegment. The focus is on plug-in and hardwired type TVSS. The market share analysis has also been provided by product type. The study focuses on the key challenges, drivers and restraints for the World TVSS market. The study provides analysis of the major distribution channels used and provides detailed analysis on competitive scenario.
TVSS are used to protect electrical circuits from surges and transients that occur due to lightning, switching a light on or off, faulty motors, or those that happen within the devices themselves. A majority of the transients in a given facility are generated within the facility, and could be of two types:
Internal – generated transients are caused by switching within the facility. By turning off a light, the current flow is abruptly interrupted, causing the magnetic device to collapse. This generates a back electromotive force (voltage) to oppose the change in current, which creates a transient.
External – generated transients are caused by lightning, normal utility operations, unusual power line conditions, and noisy electrical surroundings. A lightning strike is capable of creating an electric field intensity in the range of hundreds of thousands of volts. If a wire is exposed to an electric-field intensity, it can develop an induced transient voltage. If this transient appears across an unprotected power, telephone, data or coaxial line, the result can be system destruction.
Every year, billions of dollars in revenues are lost due to power-related problems. It is estimated that the data loss at computer installations is attributed to power quality problems.
In 2009, the market generated revenues with a decline. This decline was owing to the global economic slow down witnessed in second half of 2008 and throughout 2009.
The TVSS market is likely to rebound in 2010 due to continued manufacturer focus on new construction, the telecommunication sector, and the likely revival of business and consumer spending during the forecast period.
Growth is expected in the Asia Pacific and Latin American market as these are developing regions.
Transients can be a perennial problem unless addressed, and the issue has gained significance as many industries are moving toward automating information and reporting systems.
The demand for TVSS has increased during the past decade due to the greater use of electronics and electrical devices. As power quality continues to be a significant issue for businesses and consumers using electrical power, the demand for TVSS is expected to increase accordingly.
The overall market for TVSS looks promising to keep up with microprocessor-based applications. In the point-of-use TVSS markets, revenues are increasing moderately, while in the hard-wired TVSS market, revenues are increasing at a faster pace.
