The hospital market for surgical gloves steadily increased in the past five years, with the share of latex powdered gloves falling from 76 per cent in 2005 to 37 per cent in 2009, while that of latex powder-free gloves leaped from 20 per cent to 57 per cent during the same period. Public sector hospitals represent 52 per cent of sales compared with 48 per cent for private sector hospitals. CareFusion and Ansell share equally the market, together accounting for over 95 per cent of sales. While Carefusion is the market leader in the latex powdered and synthetic segments, Ansell dominates the latex powder-free market.
