East Africa Emerging As the Next Major Hub For Oil And Gas Exploration And Development

Summary

Africa, as a continent, is witnessing significant development activities in search of hydrocarbons. These development activities have resulted in the region’s growing importance with a contribution of around 12% of the world oil and gas production since 2005. The increased significance is due to improved technologies and continuous development activities in Algeria, Nigeria, Sudan, Angola, Chad and other countries. Angola accounts for around 13% of Africa’s energy output. Africa has also emerged as an important supplier of LNG with an increase in natural gas production in recent years. North Africa and West Africa are established oil and gas producers. In addition, East Africa is emerging as a new oil and gas exploration area with significant oil and gas potential. Companies like Tullow Oil and Anadarko have already explored East African regions such as Uganda, Somalia and Kenya to evaluate the significant oil and gas resources. Newer improved technology and greater exploration activities are attracting various energy players to develop their operations and reserves base in East Africa
