Raising Capital for Mongolian Companies - Opportunities for Investors
Frontier Securities, Aug 2010, Pages: 13
Current Mongolian business environment
Banking sector of Mongolia is small compared to other emerging countries, as Mongolia's bank loans to GDP is only 34% while in Central and Eastern Europe its over 50%, USA, Korea, China is over 100%. Also, Mongolian stock market is very small with approximately $500 mln market capital which is 25% of domestic bank credit and $180 per capita. In addition, Mongolia has virtually no public or publicly traded debt which needs to be established at domestic capital markets. This will enable a forward rate which will attract foreign investors. Mongolia has less than $2 bln in foreign debt, much on concessionary terms, or about 40% of GDP.
Needs of Capital
Following the Oyu Tolgoi Investment agreement, and development at TT, Mongolia is in front of the doorstep of rapid mining developments, as Mongolian government fully or partially owns 15 more strategically important deposits which most of them considered as world class deposits as OT and TT. In order to fully utilize and benefit from these assets, Mongolian government would need total of $31 to $42 bln, in the sectors including mine development, infrastructure, urban development, agriculture, industry, environment, and social development.
