Listing on Australian Securities Exchange
Frontier Securities, Aug 2010, Pages: 12
A number of Australian companies have shown strong interests in Mongolian mining sector, both big miners (BHP Biliton & Rio Tinto) and special purpose mining companies (General Mining Corporation, Troy resources & Hunnu coal).
It is noticeable that the governments are putting high efforts to stimulate the industrial cooperation between Australia and Mongolia. After visits from officials of both countries to each other, the Australian government has released in August 2009 a report aimed to enable Australian companies to understand mining investment opportunities in Mongolia, which was very successful in terms of interest aroused from Australian side.
For Mongolian companies which are ready to be listed abroad, ASX is a very adequate place because it has the largest resource sector in the world as well as the expertise needed. The advantage of Australian market is that the Australian investors understand risks associated with mining and have developed long standing resources rules that have shown their effectiveness. Unlike HKEx, ASX is more flexible for initial listing of a small sized mining company that can build up their assets and market capitalization and then go for a second listing in another stock exchange. For a company that is not ready yet, for any reasons, there is still the possibility to be assisted by an Australian partner who can help the Mongolian company in preparing for listing by providing additional funds for further exploration, and advising on proper internal structure
