“One country, two systems” principle has allowed Hong Kong to maintain its unique role as China’s world market while enjoying high degree of autonomy.
The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) has become a leading financial centre with strong fund raising capability: HKEx was ranked 1st in IPO fund raising and 7th largest stock exchange by market capitalization among world’s stock exchanges in 2009.
One important feature of HKEx is its diversified investor base: 42% of investors are international (mainly from US and UK) and institutional investors represent 62%.
China Mainland’s investors can invest in HKEx through the Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor (QDII) scheme, via fund management institutions, insurance companies, securities companies and other assets management institutions, which have been approved by China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).
