Billing Systems: Worldwide Forecast 2010–2014
Analysys Mason Group, Oct 2010, Pages: 55
The worldwide billing systems market is forecast to grow from USD4.7 billion in 2009 to USD5.6 billion in 2014, at a very low CAGR of 3.7%. The slow growth is largely the result of limited spending on postpaid billing solutions. Spending on billing software will recover in the later years of the forecast, driven by growth in subscriber numbers in emerging markets, competition in mature and emerging markets, and growth in mobile data and related services.
This report provides a forecast of the worldwide market for billing systems, split into the following four sub-segments.
- Rating and pricing are the core of postpaid billing platforms, but the focus of investment has shifted towards real-time charging (RTC), which is not included in these numbers. As a result, the growth in spending will remain low.
- Mediation closely follows the rating and pricing segment, and is equally affected this shift.
- Partner and interconnect are becoming increasingly important as communications service providers (CSPs) form partnerships to support new business opportunities. This will drive growth in spending. Settlement for mobile roaming will also contribute to growth.
- Business optimisation will also show high growth, driven by a shift to commercial platforms to replace in-house developments for fraud management, revenue assurance and analytics.
The forecast is also split into the following four telecoms service types.
- Spending on mobile billing will grow at a 6.4% CAGR, driven by growth in the subscriber base in emerging markets and the need to support mobile broadband – particularly in mature markets. Most of the growth in the mobile market is in the prepaid segment, which now accounts for 71% of subscribers.
- PSTN’s share will decline to less than 10% in 2014. Incumbent CSPs will make some investments in billing towards the end of the forecast period, as they focus on reducing the cost of supporting PSTN users.
- The business services market will grow, driven by CSPs’ increasing focus on the SME market for IP-based communications, SaaS and cloud computing ervices.
- The residential broadband market will continue to enjoy reasonable growth, as CSPs provide morecomplex service bundles to enable some differentiation in services.
