The overall adoption rate for PC-based mobile broadband services in the developed Asia–Pacific region is much lower than that in Western Europe, and opportunities for further growth are significant. Take-up varies considerably between countries: Australia's mobile broadband market has grown rapidly during the past 2–3 years, but service take-up has yet to grow significantly in Japan and South Korea. Nevertheless, we forecast strong growth in the region during the next five years, as operators respond to increasing pressure to find and fully exploit new sources of revenue.

In this rapidly evolving market, mobile and fixed-line operators, and infrastructure and device vendors, need to understand the opportunity or threat presented by mobile broadband. This report quantifies the market, providing granular data on connections, ARPU and revenue for six market segments: consumer and business users, prepaid and contract subscriptions, and complementary and new/substitutive service usage. It includes country-level forecasts for Australia, Japan and South Korea, as well as for the region as a whole.

Mobile broadband in developed Asia–Pacific: forecasts and analysis 2010–2015 answers your key questions:

- What is the size of the market opportunity for mobile operators, in terms of new subscribers, across their geographical footprints?

- What types of subscriber will dominate the mobile broadband customer base?

- What level of substitution threat will there be for fixed operators?

- How much ARPU will subscribers generate and how will this change during the next five years, as the subscriber base develops?

- What is the total revenue opportunity, and which segments and markets have the greatest revenue potential?
