This Frost & Sullivan research service titled EU Renewable Energy Services Market: A Deep Dive into the Biomass Energy Services Market provides a detailed analysis on the biomass energy services sector. The first part of this research offers a comprehensive overview of the wind energy services sector. Industry challenges, together with market drivers and restraints, are discussed. The research also offers an in-depth competitive analysis and revenue forecasts. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following countries: Finland, Sweden, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom and others (Austria, France, Hungary and Spain).

Market Overview

Biomass Power Plant Services Market to Benefit from an Uptake in the Installed Capacity

An expansion in installed capacity due to the need to meet renewable energy targets, paralleled by an increase in professional owners and investors, will drive the European biomass energy services market. “The EU 2020 renewable energy targets have made governments assess and better leverage their renewable energy resources,” notes the analyst of this research. “This trend is having a positive impact on the biomass energy market and, consequently, on the services market as well.” Even though in the past, some governments may have seemed to ignore biomass energy in favour of wind energy, the realisation that not one but a combination of renewable energy industries will help them reach their renewable energy targets has led to, and will continue to lead to, an increase in installed capacity. With the growth in installed base, new opportunities are emerging for servicing newly built biomass plants.

At the same time, the number of professional owners and investors has risen. Industrial owners, historically among the largest customer groups, are interested in biomass power plants as a way to efficiently dispose of their waste and do not regard power and heat production as their main activity. A growing customer segment, utilities and independent power producers (IPPs), on the other hand, regard the plants as their core business. Therefore, they are interested in maximising production and revenue generation. Not only is this achieved through a choice of optimal technology, but also though following an efficient and effective operation & maintenance (O&M) programme.

As biomass energy is among the most mature renewable energy markets in Europe, growth rates are not as high as those of wind or solar energy markets. Consequently, the servicing opportunities for new installations are only moderate when compared with other faster-growing sectors. “Moreover, like other renewable energy sectors, growth in this market far outpaces the number of people with the skill to service these plants,” remarks the analyst. “This is especially in areas that require more technically intensive services. Training programmes and university courses and other methods are, however, being introduced to combat the problem.”
