This research service presents a comprehensive analysis of the Indian MES market. The MES market has been further split into software license revenue and software services revenue. Revenue analysis is provided for each product type and end-user industries. Detailed end-user analysis covering major MES implementation drivers and key MES functions has been provided. The objective of the research service is to assess the market drivers and restraints and provide an understanding of the attributes that influence MES vendor selection, besides giving insights on the competitive environment. To conclude, the research service provides the market forecast for each end-user industry, until 2016
Market Overview
MES Enhances Plant Automation in India
With intensifying competition in the manufacturing sector, MES is witnessing huge uptake. Seizing the opportunity, numerous MES solution providers and domestic software service companies are foraying into the Indian MES market. The market is expected to continue its upward trajectory for the next five years with a robust growth rate. MES delivers information that expedites production activities from order launch to finished goods. Using current and accurate data, MES guides, initiates, responds to, and reports on plant activities as they occur. The resulting rapid response to changing conditions, juxtaposed with a focus on reducing non value-added activities, drives effective plant operations and processes. “For Indian manufacturers engaged in this fiercely competitive space, there is a pressing need for an integrated productivity enhancement tool such as MES to maintain operational excellence,” notes the analyst of this research service. “Besides the need for real-time information to improve operational efficiency, the need to conform with regulatory standards, such as FDA regulations, are the two factors that will spearhead MES growth in the Indian market.” In the next five years, pharmaceutical and food and beverage companies in India will witness an increase in MES implementations to comply with regulatory requirements. The oil and gas industry accounts for the majority of the Indian MES market. Other end-user industries such as consumer packaged goods, steel, specialty chemicals, automotive, and auto ancillary are also expected to trigger a large number of MES deployments. As direct presence of global MES vendors in India is limited, IT service providers are bound to play a significant role in influencing MES adoption among end-user industries.
Although the prospects for the market look upbeat, there are some challenges restraining forward momentum. The easy availability of low-cost labor and significant integration costs with enterprise applications and other automation systems are the major impediments for MES implementation. Older plant equipment may not be compliant to the MES application requirements and online protocol connectivity (OPC) standards. Interfacing systems may be needed to bring in compliance, which increases the overall cost of MES implementation.
Implementation of the MES system has to be driven by the end user for optimal utilization of the data and functionality offered by it. MES vendors must constantly work with the end users to identify and understand their functional requirements from the installed MES package.
