Asia - Cloud Computing Insights

Telecom Investment Research Note
Cloud computing remains a hot topic in the ICT industry, and BuddeComm fully agrees with the view that it has a great future.
Although it will still be a fairly long time before it becomes as commonplace, investment across northern Asia is accelerating. South Korea for example has a lofty goal of capturing 10% of the global cloud services market by 2014 and to halve the cost of operating the public sector’s ICT infrastructure. In order to support this, Korea’s Communications Commission (KCC) has committed over US$500 million to the development of Korean cloud computing facilities.
Government support and intervention are well entrenched in many Asian economies and South Korea is certainly not an isolated example. These countries have recognised that cloud computing can be a valuable business tool – one that will differentiate companies from others. In providing support to the industry, it is envisaged that these changes can be a further step in cementing technology leadership.
