HP Software Extends Operational Lifecycle Management to Public, Private, and Hybrid Cloud Environments with Acquisition of Stratavia
Enterprise Management Associates, Sep 2010, Pages: 3
On August 26, 2010, HP (NYSE:HPQ) announced it had acquired Stratavia, a privately held database and application automation company based in Denver, Colorado. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With the advent of cloud computing, the ability to manage a mixture of on-premise, off-premise, physical and virtual IT systems is becoming increasingly important. The diversity of such hybrid environments makes manual deployment and management tasks difficult. Stratavia, which got its start as a provider of database administration automation tools, offers solutions to address automation across the entire application stack.
Analysts believe that the acquisition positively expands the HP Software and Solutions portfolio, adding deployment, configuration, and management solutions for enterprise databases, middleware and packaged applications. Stratavia’s automation assets are also a value-add. In addition, the acquisition strengthens HP’s private cloud initiative. HP recently made several cloud-related announcements, including the newly launched CloudStart on August 30, 2010.
