Polish IT Sector Report
Emerging Markets Direct, March 2011, Pages: 15
The Polish IT Sector Report offers an extensive summary of the Polish IT market, segmented into hardware, software, IT services and e-commerce. It includes a complete coverage of the latest developments, trends and corporate news, accompanied by thorough statistics and comments. This sector report is ideal to keep you abreast of recent company and industry news. Written by local professionals, it is a unique market and business intelligence analysis, tailored to save time by providing in-depth information, while helping you to make confident and informed business decisions.
The Polish economy has weathered the global crisis generally in good shape, but the IT sector has suffered seriously. Although Poland remained 'the green island' as the only EU member-state without even a single quarter of negative GDP growth, companies (both Polish and international) went into savings mode. The first victims of those savings were usually IT projects. The situation was even worse, as savings were made also by the government, even in projects which were supposedly co-funded by EU funds. Despite the hostile environment, the IT sector survived the worst in generally good shape – but improvements in the market have been slower than previous expectations, especially since the government will continue to trim public projects in the IT sector.
The coming two years will be difficult for IT companies, but the business environment is supposed to be firmer and much more predictable - as a result, the M&A activity is predicted to grow. While the Polish software and services markets will be close to flat growth in the coming years, the biggest national players such as Comarch and Asseco will be looking for growth in other markets. For Comarch, it will be the DACH market, while Asseco is looking to the Middle East and North America.
In 2010, the Polish IT market was worth some EUR 6.3bn, according to PMR. According to this analysis, in 2011 the market is predicted to return to double-digit growth. The fast growing e-commerce sector is estimated to have been worth EUR 3.8bn in 2010. On the other hand, IDC expects only 5% growth, with the hardware sector growing by around 3% in 2011.
