In 2009 Russian medical centers earned 391 billion roubles, which is 10% more than in 2008. At the same time the number of the rendered medical services decreased from 812 to 770 million units. Thus, the increase in the revenue was conditioned by the growth of the prices for medical services. The price index for medical services in Russia has been growing since 2000. It resulted from rise in the cost of tenancy, imported drugs, equipment as well as in the salaries. In 2009 the average cost of a paid medical consultation in Russia mounted to the point of 507.2 roubles.

The sector of the Voluntary Health Insurance (VHI) suffered the most of the commercial health care sectors. The volume of VHI decreased in both, physical and monetary terms.

Insurance premiums of agents fell from 79.5 billion roubles in 2008 to 75.9 billion roubles in 2009. Decrease in the VHI did not become crucial only owing to the measures, undertaken by the Government. According to the Amendments to the Internal Revenue Code that came into force on January 1, 2009, the norm of non-taxable allocations for VHI from the companies was increased (from 3% to 6% of the labor compensation fond). In the nearest future the VHI sector might have good growth prospects in relation to the insurance premium (approximately 14-15% per year).

The largest network of private medical centers belongs to Medsi – the clients of this company are served in 21 medical institution. Medsi became the owner of a large network after it purchased MedExpress. The second place in this rating is occupied by MedCenterService with 12 clinics. Besides, Medsi is leading in the revenue and the number of rendered services. In 2009 doctors of Medsi saw 2 million patients.
