The decision regarding whether to deploy a corporate liable, employee liable or combination approach can be a difficult one for the enterprise. There is not a universal answer to the question ‘Which is the best approach?’ The better question to ask is ‘Which approach is best for my organization?’ Based on AOTMP research, on average, 85% of enterprise wireless devices are corporate liable. This represents a similar figure observed in 2009. The statistic reflects that organizations continue to take a proactive approach to monitoring wireless spend during difficult economic times. This may also reflect a heightened awareness of device security, which has become exponentially more important as enterprises continue to increase the number of Smart Devices containing sensitive business information in their environments.

It is interesting to note that over half of all enterprises have some representation of employee liable devices within their environments. Many organizations are using this hybrid approach for a couple of reasons. First, enterprises may decide that certain employees require limited business usage of a device and allow them to use their personal device. Second, certain executives may be granted special privileges to use their own device which, in most cases, is a different make and model than the company-issued devices.

This report outlines the key considerations for both approaches and arms the enterprise with impactful benchmarks and best practice guidance in order to assess both approaches.
