The first half of 2010 was not successful for the clothing and the footwear sector due to weak weather conditions (the prolonged winter and late spring, and rainy May) and the national mourning. The zloty depreciation Has transfered onto the growth of costs of purchasing commodities, and also higher rents in shopping malls. Additionally, the stuation was deteriorated by the lower number of clients in stores, and in the result – the lower level of sales. In crisis times, the price is the essential criterion of choosing.
The third quarter brought a slight revival on the market. The cold weather in September prompted clothing and footwer companies to start, earlier than usual, to sell autumn collection, which had a positive influence on their revenue dynamics and margins. A series of these events should be reflected in H2/2010 results, which is also being looked forward by the branch, tired of the crisis.
However, although one swallow does not make a summer, expectations of majorities companies about the demand growth in H2/2010 are positive. On the other hand, pesimists are stressing that the word 'crisis' prevails in clients counsciousness, so the sale growth this year is less probable.
Companies operating in Poland, are more and more inclined to turn to eastern markets. Ukraine and Russia are, in this context, the most promising countries.
