The Nuclear Energy Agency’s ‘Nuclear Energy Outlook’ indicates that global nuclear energy capacity is set to increase by between 55% and 375% by the middle of the century. Certainly, a number of countries are building nuclear power plants, and several more are deliberating the use of nuclear power to produce electricity to meet growing demand. As a result, the uranium industry has become the focus of considerable attention.
In Africa, Niger and Namibia are the largest producers of uranium, ranking fifth and sixth respectively internationally
in 2007, while South Africa is the world’s eleventh largest producer.
