- In 2009, the total number of service stations declined by 9.5%. Most major players divested sites during 2009, with the Jet branded network contracting by 25%, as Statoil sold 40 of its Jet sites to St1. St1’s service station network grew from just 41 sites to 200 sites by the end of 2009, as it acquired 118 Uno-X and 40 Jet sites from Statoil.
- There was a marginal decline in fuel consumption in Sweden in 2009. Total fuel volumes sold declined by 0.5% in 2009, following a 2.6% decline in 2008. In 2009, fuel prices dipped in line with global oil prices after the spike in 2008. Gasoline prices declined by 15.6% to €1.14 per litre and diesel prices declined by 23.7% to €1.09 per litre.
- Shops are located at 42.6% of the national service station network in Sweden. In order to improve its shop offer, Shell has partnered with Reitan Group to operate 7-Eleven stores at its sites. Meanwhile, Statoil has partnered with a team of Swedish chefs to improve its Made to Go food range.
