The earlier introduction of pre-paid luncheon cards proved to be successful. In 2009 the Belgian government allowed Sodexo and Accor, to replace the traditional luncheon (paper) vouchers with pre-paid cards, providing both employers and their employees a tax-free remuneration of €7 every day. These cards registered strong growth during the first and second year since the introduction. The cards can be used in staff restaurants, commercial restaurants, snack bars, coffee shops and food stores.
