Le Web 2010 Review: Part 1 - Electric Vehicles
Research 2.0, Dec 2010, Pages: 3
CONCLUSIONS - Automobiles have faded from their emotional and evocative past in developed countries. Newer, more connected and personal electric cars are an opportunity to revitalize the industry in those markets. - Renault is betting heavily on the ascendance of the electric car (EV) within the $2T/year “autonomous personal transportation” market. - Nattering naysayers cite limited range, high costs, paltry charging infrastructure, and myriad obstacles but many of the same were said of the cell phone twenty years ago. However, it should be pointed out that while the cell phone grew to dominate communications, the satellite phone did not. - The huge gap between the design and innovation cycle of cars (10 years) and technology (10 months) will force a revolution in automotive information systems and open up major new opportunities. - Substantive launches in both Denmark and Israel should help further our understanding about how the market will develop, and 2011 will see more EV models come to market.
