The Government of Egypt announces project financing of $220m for the construction and development of a wind farm project to be located in Egypt. The World Bank will lend Cairo $220m to develop the infrastructure required to connect the wind farm to Egypt's National Grid and to support the development of 250 MW Gabel el Zait Wind Project. Out of $220m financed by the World Bank, $150m will be contributed by the United Nation’s Clean Technology Fund (CTF). The project is approved by the World Bank as its low carbon energy commitment in various countries in Middle East and North Africa. Moreover Egypt has an unexplored potential of 99,570 MW for the development of wind plants, where at least 7200 MW could be developed at the Gulf of Suez by the year 2022.
