Paraguay: Government Decree Improves Competitive Landscape for Mobile Services

Paraguay has an underdeveloped fixed market that recently saw its Internet segment opened to competition. This is why we expect fixed VoIP and broadband Internet to be — along with mobile data — its fastest growing telecom segments.
The telecommunication market in Paraguay will increase by 11.5% in 2010, mainly due to the growth of mobile voice and data, pay-TV and broadband. Going forward, we expect the market to expand at a 5.7% CAGR fueled by increases in broadband and mobile data services. We anticipate mobile data services to represent 19.2% of total revenue by 2015, compared with 11.4% in 2010. On the other hand, fixed broadband will continue to penetrate households, expanding at a double digit compound rate through the forecast period.
