The company mainly utilizes coal as its raw material for power generation. Additionally, the other sources of electric generation by fuel type, which the company employs, are nuclear energy, natural gas, hydroelectricity and oil. Ameren was formed in 1997 by the merger of Missouri's Union Electric Company and the Central Illinois Public Service Company. The company is headquartered at St. Louis, in Missouri, the US.
