North American Cards Database 2010
Datamonitor, Oct 2010, Pages: 30
The database is an invaluable resource for understanding the dynamics of the general purpose card markets in Canada and the US. In addition to fully standardized market data and forecasts, the database contains proprietary competitor and market level metrics including H1 2010 statistics, transactions by merchant category, premium credit card holding, card usage, and repayment behaviour by issuer.
Scope: - Compare markets for entry opportunities using our fully standardized data that allows for detailed and quick and easy comparison of key metrics - Optimise your strategy by benchmarking key players and looking at our proprietary survey data featuring product design and consumer card usage data - Build your forward plans using our forecasts for pay now, pay later and revolving credit cards markets to 2014
Highlights:
Over 2005-08, the value of transactions on general purpose payment cards in North America grew at a CAGR of 7.6%. However, due to difficult economic environment the market has declined by 2.6% in 2009. The value of transactions is expected to grow by 4.2% in 2010.
In Canada, the majority of credit cards are reported to be paid in full which suggests that consumers tend to be transactors rather than revolvers on average. The reverse is true of the US.
Almost 2 in 5 credit cards are used regularly in Canada according to the Financial Services Consumer Insight survey. In the United States, the majority of credit cards are reported to be used on an occasional basis.
Key questions answered:
- Which markets have the greatest future growth opportunity? - What card products and features are available and how cards are used in different countries? - Where should I target new products and services? - Who has highest wallet share in the US and Canada?
