The market downturn has had a dramatic effect on the wealth of the UK population. The first of its kind, this database sizes the potential affluent client base across 12 regions in the UK, presenting the number of individuals and the aggregate onshore liquid assets they hold from 2005-9 and forecasted to 2014.

Scope of the report:

- Decide which regions to expand into using robust data that sizes your potential market
- Identify where the largest concentrations of affluent individuals live, helping to target marketing regionally
- Take the guesswork out of your business planning; use our forecasts to guide your growth strategy by region

In 2006, before the world was hit by the perfect storm, the number of affluent individuals living in the North grew by 7.4%, compared to 6.2% in the South.
In fact, the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber were home to the fastest-growing affluent populations in the country in 2006 (increasing by 11.4% and 10.2%, respectively) while London’s affluent population grew relatively slowly, by 8.2%.

The story was mixed in 2007, with London keeping the South buoyed somewhat while each of the other eight regions across the country saw their affluent populations decline. In 2008, however, London’s affluent population saw a severe reversal of fortune, contracting by 21.5% (this equates to 350,000 people sliding out of the 'affluent' category).

Key questions answered:

- Which regions in the UK are home to the largest affluent populations?
- Which regions will see the fastest growth in their affluent populations as the economy recovers?
